Parts for Elan Series 1
The Lotus Elan was first introduced in October 1962 was sold either as a complete car or in kit form. Designed as practical every day and has become an icon of the 60s. Styled by Ron Hickman who previously worked for Ford. The floor and wheel arches were made in one mould alongside the upper section before being bonded together.
The power unit was a four cylinder 1,498cc engine from the Ford Cortina. Designed with an aluminium alloy head to accommodate the twin camshafts, twin Weber 40 carburettors and a full synchromesh gearbox. The engine was increased to 1,558cc in May 1963 to allow entry to the 1600 racing capacity leading to a recall of all 22 Elans to retro fit the larger engine.
